I am not a big fan of diet books because the general idea for losing weight is just to eat less and move more. So many books out there give you a such a specific eating plan ("eat celery at 2pm" or "eat three almonds as soon as you wake up") that I end up feeling like a failure when I can't stick with it.
I am happy to report that The Complete Beck Diet for Life: The Five-Stage Program for Permanent Weight Loss
is not the traditional diet book. It is written by Dr. Judith S. Beck, Director of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research and New York Times best-selling author of The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person
.
Instead of telling you what to

I recently overheard some moms at my son's preschool talking about Speech Therapy, and I realize I've never blogged about Speech Therapy and some wonderful things that I can pass on about it here in the blogosphere. My son speaks very well now, and we were done with Speech Therapy long before I started blogging...
BUT, someone is always dealing with a child's 'speech delay' as they call it. So I'm sharing what I learned.
My son was not speaking more than a few words when he turned 2. We started to be concerned, so looked into Speech Therapy. First of all, if you are in Montgomery County, MD, you are lucky to have a fantastic speech therapy team and services that will test your child, provide

It is time for another installment of "One Fit Mommy"! As I surf around the blogosphere, I come across fit moms (and dads too!) who inspire me to fitness. From there, I hunt them down and force them to tell me their secrets, which I then share with you! There are no excuses with these parents, just support on how we can ALL find time for fitness!
This week's mommy is Alison, who blogs over here. She is a busy single mom who makes fitness a priority. If you live with a significant other and claim that you have "no time to exercise", then I encourage you to think again. Single parents have very little, if any, time to themselves and if they can find the time to exercise, then we can certainly

If you are driving through the intersection of University Blvd. and Colesville Road, you might miss the sign for the little bakery in Four Corners; if you do, turn around and go in.
The Woodmoor Pastry Shop is in the little strip mall at the intersection. There is parking in the front and a BIG parking lot in the rear. This place has been a family-owned and run business for over 50 years.
They have cookies, cakes, cup cakes, muffins, scones and GORGEOUS bread. But the best part: the taste. You just can't find a better bakery and the prices are reasonable too!
My blogger buddy, A Parent In Silver Spring is a fan of this place... I first met her about a year ago and checked out her site AND

I know many of you are still probably wondering how is that a baby planner could really help me? I am a capable, intelligent person who knows how to plan and shop you think. Of course all of that is true. I just thought that I would provide an example of how I am helping one of my current clients.
My client has a very demanding job with ever changing, long hours. Her mother realized that her daughter would never be able to get everything done on her own so she sought out my services. At first, her daughter laughed at the idea of working with a baby planner. Two hours with me and I'm pretty sure she was convinced. We were able to get through her registry and furniture selection/ordering in

It's safe to say that I had a blast last week. We had tons of family and friends come to town and stay with us for Inauguration and boy did we get our celebration on. The weekend began with the girls' weekly ballet class and SIL and her family driving up from Atlanta to spend some time with us. What a treat! Chatterbox and Giggles were beside themselves with excitment at having their big cousins to play with. We all braved the cold weather (it was freezing!) and took the Metro downtown to the National Mall and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, where the kids reveled in display upon display of dinosaurs. We topped the night off with Blazy's Pepperoni Lasagna and hit the

On January 20, 2009 History was made. And even though I could have braved the cold and ventured downtown to the Capital Buiding on Metro, I did not. I chose to have the best seat in the house: I watched the Inauguration on TV.
There is enough written and there will be plenty more written about wonderful moments and the meaning of The Inauguration, like the moment I welled up with tears when I saw 2 old African-American men in the crowd wearing Tuskegee Airmen caps.
So let's concentrate on something important here *wink*.
I LOVED Michelle Obama's choice of green J.Crew gloves and green Jimmy Choo shoes to wear with her outfit yesterday. It was kind of a bold choice... and it worked! And not

For the first time in several years I am now a member of a gym instead of an instructor. Since becoming one of the members, I now understand why some people are against joining one. In my opinion, a gym is not that much different than high school.
The members may seem to be anonymous, but they are all divided into their different cliques. When I enter those gym doors each morning, I feel like I'm entering the 9th grade all over again.
Here are the groups that I've run across:
1. The Jocks: these are the beefed up men in the weight training area that give you the death look if you get near their bench press. They spend the entire time working out their chest, completely ignoring their

Ahhh...remember the days when everything in your home was in perfect condition? If you were anything like me, my townhouse was spotless. I lived alone and only had to clean up after myself. I growled at anyone who made a mess and kept a full can of Resolve Carpet Cleaner for any stain that might crop up. Life was in order. My Type A self relished the clean, calm feeling that I enjoyed in my single days.
And then it happened, as Monica Gellar from Friends once said "I have to live with a boy!" (sniff, sniff). While I can't complain about my husband...he is very neat, helps with the housework, laundry and ALWAYS puts the seat down. So other than using too many towels and his

The Wii Fit is the hottest game in town and I am so excited that Game Crazy is letting me give one to YOU! (yes, maybe you!!)
As I've posted before, the Wii Fit is a great way to help inactive people become more active. Game Crazy recognizes this as well:
"The link between physical fitness and video games has never been so strong," said Wes Sand, senior vice president at Game Crazy. "Increasingly, physical activity is moving beyond just traditional sports and the typical health club regimen. Game Crazy experts can provide insights on the variety of virtual reality and simulation video games that can help Americans achieve a healthier lifestyle."
I never thought I could use a game system
