I'm no longer a
‘Twilight' virgin. On Friday night, my husband and I watched Twilight. I haven't read the book.
My take on this phenomenon? It was good. I have to admit, it's a perfect movie to get sucked into (no pun intended)...
Stephanie Meyer is a genius in terms of a commercial plot (and I don't mean that negatively)...
Teen angst, first love, plus vampires thrown in... and they are good vampires- are you kidding me?
This movie is 16 CANDLES and Jake Ryan is a cool vampire.
The whole movie is done well. Even my husband said,
"That could have been cheese-tastic, and it wasn't." Trust me, this is a ringing endorsement.
The only thing that caused me to wince was Bella's quick turn from being a

It seems that direct sale businesses are back and stronger then ever. Companies such as WineShopAtHome, Touchstone Crystal, Pampered Chef, Arbonne, Avon, Nu Skin and Creative Memories are just a few of the direct sales options that many SAHMs (Stay At Home Moms) are taking advantage of for income, flexible schedules and fun! I call them Momtrepreneur Enterprises. These companies cater to the hectic and scattered schedules of most SAHMs. To find out more about the lure of these companies, I interviewed five women currently involved in a direct sale business. My first question was "Are you doing it because of the economy?" Most indicated that the economy was not a big factor. In

I am exhausted from bad news and the "To Do" list that is my life. The first quarter of 2009 found me refinancing my home (tons of paperwork but for a worthy cause), gathering the standard tax information for the accountant, cringing at our 401k statements and listening intently to the "End of the World" news reports that I am hit with daily. I think it is for that reason that I have found myself wandering onto "fun" sites on the web. Fashion, make-up, shoes...I am there. I think I really just need a diversion from the everyday.
With that in mind I am sharing my latest find. Long lusting after the polished "Smokey Eye" look that Kim Kardashian has made famous, I wanted to find out

My kids LOVE reading. Well, they love listening. K loves reading. They all love listening. So after the big book sort last week I am happy to report we have been reading some new books. And of course the big book dump (we donated MULTIPLE big bags of books away) has not stopped Mama's habit of buying books. In fact, within 24 hours we had several new kids books in the house (hee hee). One of them was an INSTANT favorite. It is the new Piggie and Gerald book called "
Watch Me Throw the Ball". If you are not familiar with Piggie and Gerald you are MISSING OUT! They are the newest creations from
Mo Willems, an amazing kids book author who has also written "Knuffle Bunny" and "Leonardo, the

So this is what it feels like to have only me to worry about!
I arrived in Seattle last night for a work event and am still getting used to flying "solo". The plane ride was so uneventful - no diaper bags to lug; no preschoolers to entertain on the plane; only one bathroom run for ME...I felt like I was on vacation. And I guess I sort of am! I slept the entire night (which I haven't done since June 22, 2008) and then woke up and went to the fitness center. I didn't have to warm anyone's milk; change the tv channel from the Today Show to Handy Manny, or get.anybody.dressed. How indulgent!
And now I'm sitting here, gazing out of my 27th floor hotel room window with a panoramic view of the city,

As we go into a rainy weekend I thought I'd share a few more macros of the flowers in my garden. This time washed with spring rain. If you look closely in the drops of the purple flower you can see my reflection!

It is time for another installment of "One Fit Mommy"! As I surf around the blogosphere, I come across fit moms (and dads too!) who inspire me to fitness. From there, I hunt them down and force them to tell me their secrets, which I then share with you!
Today's mommy is Capt. Rosanna Vasquez Brown, who is currently deployed to Iraq for the second time in three years. She is a perfect example of how everyone can stay fit, no matter what their circumstances.
Captain Vasquez Brown has discovered the joy of running and has plans for several races this year, including the Army Ten Miler and Disney 1/2 marathon.
Please read on for more about Captain Vasquez Brown and why she is definitely "One

I just love the first flowers of spring. My garden has lovely spring bulbs that are blooming, and with the help of my little 3-year-old assistant, I was able to grab a few fun macro shots. These flowers just have the most amazing details. For my fellow photographers--these are all in full sun, shot using a golden reflector and my little assistant serving as a gobo to block direct sunlight. That setup allowed me to grab better detail with my 100mm macro lens.

Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!
And I do mean everyone- since everybody is Irish on St. Patrick's Day.
I'm not blogging from The Dubliner in Downtown DC;
I used to start every St. Patrick's Day at The Dubliner, my husband always took off work and we'd ride Metro down. An old-fashioned Irish pub is a nice place to be at 10am on St. Patrick's Day... not too many people, nobody is drunk yet, there are a lot of older people in green sweaters, happy to enjoy a pint of Guinness before the 20-something binge-drinking starts. Ah, the good ol' days!
I just got this in an email and it's a good read on this Irish-est of days.
What It Means To Be Irish or Have an Irish Family
1) You will never play

My evening in Georgetown at the District Sample Show did not disappoint! The setting...a brick exposed two story venue on M Street was the backdrop for over 20 DC Metro area boutiques selling their end-of-season wares.
Ok...I will admit, while I love fashion, I take my cues from safe sources like fashion blogs, celebrities, magazines, etc. I would not classify myself as a true Fashionista. My girlfriend on the other hand knows what she is doing. When she heard about the District Sample Sale she demanded that we attend. In a word, awesome!

Admittedly I spent more time sipping champagne and watching the fashion frenzy than actually buying...but it was still pure fun and worth every

How do we define success in life? Well, if you're a mom, and you probably are if you are reading this: Successfully potty-training your child ranks up there with starting your own fortune 500 company. I've been through it and it is still something that is a source of pride for me. I think this and then I remind myself-
EVERYONE IN THE WORLD IS POTTY-TRAINED.
It can't be that hard...Duh!
But maybe, just maybe... it is that big of a deal.
I got this in am email, I'm sure a mom wrote it:
SUCCESS IN LIFE
At age 4 success is . . . not piddling in your pants.
At age 12 success is . . . having friends.
At age 17 success is ... having a drivers license.
At age 35 success is . . having money.
