With Spring 2011 finally upon us many moms have realized it is time to dust off the workout gear and start to shed some of those winter pounds. Some first time moms are no doubt wondering how exercise fits into a hectic life with an infant. For those who love to run or simply walk, I have the perfect answer for you. Meet seeMOMMYRun!
The founder of seeMOMMYrun, Andrea Vincent, talks about her inspiring organization that she started from her home in Fairfax, VA. Forget the humble beginnings of 2004, seeMOMMYrun now has more than 50,000 national members. For out more in my interview with Andrea.

So by now all the residents of the DC Metro area are well aware that the winter will NEVER end. As I write this, Fairfax County has already announced that it will be closing schools tomorrow. Ugg!!! This would be the second time this week! Umm...can someone tell me when Northern VA became Northern New England?
So while the weather is frightful and hopefully your sofa is delightful, I share the attached with you. It is a lovely website that was inspired by the book "French Women Don't Get Fat". I read the book about a year ago and I was truly inspired and frankly a little aggravated. Apparently French women grow up understanding the concept of portion control. As a result they

After chatting with friends about our Flexible Spending Accounts, I was surprised to learn that most insurance companies will cover ovulation predictors and pregnancy tests. This is information I could have used years ago! Always looking to save money and utilize our family's Flexible Spending Account, I decided find out what else can be submitted for Flexible Spending Account reimbursement. Here is what I found on the web.
Note, new IRS regulations have identified those products which can be purchased using your Flexible Spending Account. Please contact your account administrator to verify which products are eligible through your plan, since program rules and regulations may

Due to a family situation, I am on a blogging break. Today's post is from Leslie at NeverSayDiet, and it will make you laugh and hungry at the same time!

I don't usually watch television while working out but the other day on the elliptical, I grew tired of staring at myself in the mirror (shocker, I know) and so my eyes wandered to the woman on the machine next to me. More specifically, I looked at her TV screen, only to see a cast iron skillet brimming with huge chunks of steak. Really delicious-looking steak. Like, that-smells-orgasmic-take-me-to-your-butcher delicious. Like Pavlov's dog, I immediately pressed the "on" button on my remote

I am not a big fan of diet books because the general idea for losing weight is just to eat less and move more. So many books out there give you a such a specific eating plan ("eat celery at 2pm" or "eat three almonds as soon as you wake up") that I end up feeling like a failure when I can't stick with it.
I am happy to report that The Complete Beck Diet for Life: The Five-Stage Program for Permanent Weight Loss
is not the traditional diet book. It is written by Dr. Judith S. Beck, Director of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research and New York Times best-selling author of The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person

I turned on the Discovery Health channel the other night and got hooked on the show "Big John, One Year Later". It is the story of a 400lb teenager who decides to have weight loss surgery.
The boy is just 17 and it really broke my heart to watch. The whole time I was thinking "oh please don't let this happen to my boys".
The cameras follow John at home and school, where he struggles both physically and emotionally. He has very few friends and endures a lot of teasing. John decides to have the surgery because he just wants to be "normal". His parents agree it is the best decision for him and his mom knows what John is getting into-she had the surgery herself a few years back.
John's journey

Remember this post? Well, since that day I (shamefully) have not exercised again. The baby wakes up 4 -5 times each night and I'm beat. It's all I can do to get through each day, let alone exercise. But going shopping on Black Friday and over the weekend and realizing that nothing fits put me over the edge. So I signed up for Weight Watchers yesterday and registered for aerobics class which starts tonight. I really don't have a spare moment, but I've got to do this. Oh and I am also planning to join Mrs. Schmitty in her BlubHer Overhaul. I need all the support I can get!
Will report back soon.

Britney Spears celebrated her 27th birthday by performing one of her new hits on Good Morning America. Click here to see the performance, lip syncing and all.
She appears to have gotten her body back, despite telling Glamour Magazine that working out is not fun for her. She says it took "a lot of hard work" and that she now has a new appreciation for her body.
At the same time she says she only goes to the gym 2-3 days per week and that anymore would be "horrible".
I think she looks fantastic but find it suspicious that she admits to rarely exercising and makes no mention of healthy eating.
Any thoughts?

It is time for another installment of "One Fit Mommy"! Each week I scour the blogosphere to find other fit moms who inspire me to fitness.
This week is Linda, one of my favorite bloggers. I started following her personal blog (Sundrymourning) shortly after the birth of her first son, where she was talking my language as a first-time mom. She now has two little boys and I got the chance to meet her in person at BlogHer this past July. (Yes, I stalked her in yoga).
Linda is a very busy mom who works part-time for a software company and also contributes to the following websites:
Balanced Living: health and fitness topics
Work It, Mom!: tips and topics for moms

I have been a bad blogger. This week has been crazy at work - and I have 3 trips in the next 7 days. I don't usually travel - but I have been doing a lot in the last few weeks. All is going good. I am LOVING my diet. I am down 28 lbs since July. 28 lbs!!!!! Woo hoo! And I don't feel all hungry or denied. I am also more committed to exercise - both running and that killer b$(*$ Jillian's 30-day shred video.
Was in Orlando this week for work and picked up some Disney Dollars to give the girls when we tell them about the trip. We plan to tell them around the 8th of October. (I am making a countdown calendar to help them see how far away it is.)

It is time for another installment of "One Fit Mommy"! Each week I scour the blogosphere to find other fit moms who inspire me to fitness.
This week I am excited to introduce Linda, a 40-something married mom of two teens living in suburban Chicago. Linda is a part-time Legal Assistant by day and personal trainer at most other times.
I follow Linda on Twitter and I'm always impressed by her energy and dedication to fitness. She is busy juggling two jobs/careers yet does not let that stop her from finding time to exercise. She makes fitness a priority, which is precisely why Linda is "One Fit Mommy"!
Please read on for more about Linda and be sure to visit her blog over here.
