In reality, unless you have a vacation house, a pool membership or an amusement park in your backyard most kids will get a bit bored playing at home before July rolls around. Even more critical is the need for structured play and supervision for the children of working parents. Any way you slice it summer poses an interesting dilemma for lots of parents in the DC Metro area. That is why summer camps have become so popular.
Here are a few tips for finding the perfect camp.
1. Ask friends, family, teachers and parent groups for recommendations.
2. There is a litany of camps offered to kids. Some examples of local camps includes: traditional, overnight, computer, science, art, music, theater,

Milkshake is probably the world's most serious rock band for children. Not "serious" as in sad, but serious as in seriously musical. Made up of veterans of several Baltimore alt-pop, hard rock and progressive bands, Milkshake writes and performs music that is as musically sophisticated as it is lyrically lighthearted and child-centered. Though never condescending, they speak a kind of universally appealing language; a language familiar to young and old, child and parent, music fans of all ages.
You'll hear a bit of everything in Milkshake's award-winning music at their CD Release Party @ Jammin Java on August 1, 2009.
Look for Great Day, Milkshake's fourth CD release, on August 25th.

We love our kid's artwork. We get some crazy, visceral attachment from the moment we see her first scribbles. We ooh and aah over the construction paper farmer with the button eyes. We coo at the color wheels. The golf-ball-rolled-in-white-paint-and-rolled-on-black-construction-paper creation. The pre-school version of Rorschach tests that almost invariably look like butterflies. The too-adorable-for-words feather and glitter and cotton ball thingy.
You know what I'm talking about.
Now. What to do with all of it. Before it consumes your kitchen table, the walls. The very essence of your home.
Here are a few ideas.
My friend Emily has a friend who ingeniously put corkboard into large,

Thankfully, my little girl is a reader (well-pre-reader) and my little boy is a book-eater, but I am confident that it will turn into a love of reading and one of their favorites are the Richard Scarry books featuring Busytown.
The super-fabulous folks at Imagination Stage, known for great children's theater, have created a special show for those aged 2 and up. Here's a short blurb about the show.
Big day today!" is how the characters greet each other in Busytown, Richard Scarry's vividly drawn world. As the day unfolds, Grocer Cat, Stitches the Tailor, and Alfalfa the Farmer tell of their jobs in silly songs and scenes. One catchy number explores vehicles from the Broom O'Cycle to the

The fine folks at Burger King sent me their new Fresh Apple Fries (and a fly lunchbag!) to try out and I must say, they were a hit with Chatterbox and Giggles. The "fries" (fresh apples cut into fry shapes) were fresh, crunchy and sweet - so much so, that the girls didn't even bother with the low-fat caramel dipping sauce that came with them. I did try the sauce though and it was quite yummy.
It's about time that moms were offered an alternative to boring, fatty french fries for their kids' meals. In fact, it's gotten so that Chatterbox doesn't even eat the french fries anymore. Of course, a lot of the popular fast food restaurants do offer some substitutions, but I think these BK Fresh

So our kids are spoiled. They had never been to a baseball game that wasn't played in a professional stadium. Well, Saturday night we joined some friends at a summer college league game. It was in a beautiful brick baseball park, but still our girls were like, "where is the stadium?" It was kind of sad, really. But we all ended up having a great time. The food prices were actually survivable ($1.50 for popcorn vs $6.50 or so at the big park)! And we were sitting about 15 feet behind home plate (as opposed to our season tickets in the nose-bleeds!).
The best part though was that the girls were picked to announce the start of the game. Someone came through and asked one of our little friends,
