Full disclosure: I totally stole these questions from NerdGirl.]Q: Web tool. It came into your work flow this year and now you couldn't live without it. It has simplified or improved your online experience.Oh, I've tried a lot of different web tools this year: Plinky, Whrrl, iGoogle, DropSend, Evernote, Springpad, TwitterTim.es, Posterous, HootSuite (which I
hate), Cozi, Slide, BigTent and a host of others. But I'd have to say my favorite is
TweetDeck, with
Cozi Family running a close second.

This weekend has left me wanting to run away. Away from all the drama, stress, arguments, and screaming. I know that isn't an option though because no matter how far you run, it all just comes with you.
So instead I look longingly at my Saucony's and dream of the time when I can lace them up and run "away" with them.
I miss the runner's high and the way that life just seems a lot less complicated when I am out running.
I miss the thrill of the long run.
The sweat on my neck.
The smell of fresh air and the sound of my feet gently pounding the pavement.
The thrill of accomplishment when my run is finished. I always end a run feeling rejuvenated, strong, and happy. Someday it will be my turn

I was recently contacted by Dove with information on a special program they are running, Campaign For Real Beauty. At first I thought the content may a bit old for DC Metro Mommy readers. The material focuses on "Back-To-School Tips For Teens". Still...I looked over the material. I really like the information for two reasons, as women most of have struggled with the exact issues that are covered in the article things such as: body image issues, dealing with frenemies, clashing with cliques and more. To me these are topics transcend the teen years and have a tendency to seep into adolescence and adulthood. To be frank, I have met a few over the top 5 year old girls that have motivated

[Cue to
24 theme music and cut to a shot of a disheveled-looking
Jack Bauer]
Only, the person who was really disheveled was me (and hubby). This is because at 4am this morning Giggles scurried into our room complaining that her "foot hurths" and offering a 5-minute explanation as to why it hurt and why she couldn't sleep and why she wanted us to wake up. After several minutes of whispered negotiations, Hubby convinced her to go back to bed, only to have her scurry
back in about 8 minutes later saying that her bed was "scary." Hubby made her a makeshift bed on the floor next to our bed and she laid there for, oh, 3 seconds before jumping up to use the bathroom, flushing repeatedly, and then

As a kid, my birthday was for ME. My party, my special dinner, my presents.
It wasn't until I became a mother myself that I realized birthdays are more about Mom. A celebration for the woman who brought me into this world and nurtured and loved me, despite the fact that I was pretty much a brat. (yes, what comes around goes around. I am definitely getting a taste of my own medicine these days!)
Today is my birthday and I'm just filled with sadness that I can no longer celebrate with my mom. It really is HER day, not mine.
So I'm really not in the mood for cake or presents or any kind of celebration at all.
Instead, I'm getting in the car and driving to the beach for a few days with my

Well, long time, no post! Our summer started out with a bang. Mimi was sick the last week of school. Turns out she had a perforated (ruptured) appendix which was taken out June 20. We were home from the hospital Friday night the 26th after a week of IV antibiotics. Oy, what a scary, stressful few weeks! All is good now. My sanity-savers, a.k.a. my parents, came up from Texas for two weeks to help out.
Child health tip of the day: You know your child best. Don't hesitate to be "that annoying, pushy parent" who insists on further action in the doctor's office or ER. We didn't and I've finally stopped beating myself up for not "catching" that Mimi was seriously ill. Kids perforate about half

Or rather, have you remembered it is your Mother-In-Law’s Birthday while standing in her kitchen? I have… just the other day.
My Mother-In-Law’s birthday falls on Mother’s Day or just around Mother’s Day every year. This year we went to the beach for Mother’s Day weekend, so we weren’t around. And everyone was fine with that…
I even got my Mother-In-Law a birthday/mother’s day present, which I’m not supposed to do- because my husband takes her out to a very nice restaurant every year for her birthday/Mother’s Day. It’s a nice tradition and they both enjoy it! He is taking her to dinner this week.
So, I tell her I got her a present and that My son and I are bringing it over… I took a

About seven more weeks of kindergarten and our girl will be on her way to first grade. Hard to believe. I remember last summer feeling so ambivalent about letting her ride the school bus. She really, really wanted to ride the bus with all her neighborhood friends. I was having a hard time letting go of the prenatal through right-this-minute brainwashing we all undergo regarding the safety of our spawn in a moving vehicle. So I was just supposed to put my precious on a bus driven by a stranger with no seat belts whatsoever? One day she's in a five-point restraint and the next day she's totally free to be bounced right out the bus window in the event of a collision?!?
I did get over it. John

Thank you so much for all your thoughtful emails, tweets, and Facebook comments.
I am having a hard time finding my blogging and workout mojo these days. It's been two weeks since my mom died and I just cannot seem to pull myself together.
Since I am pretty sure that my mother would not want me to give up on this blog, (she came with me to BlogHer last summer and had been one of my biggest blog supporters), I promise to come back very soon.
I have a few guest posts to share and I'm always happy to accept more. (hint, hint)
As far as my own personal fitness, I feel like I am starting all over again. I have spent the better part of two weeks drowning my pain in every piece of comfort food that

Here's an underdiscussed
baby bunching issue: WHEN YOU HAVE MULTIPLE KIDS, TRIPS TO THE BATHROOM RUN YOUR LIFE. Seriously.
I've always been aware of it, but I'm definitely noticing it more now that we're on vacation. No matter where we are or where we're going, we have to stop at take kids to the restroom (or change a diaper) a zillion times a day. It's gotten to the point where we automatically ask "Anybody need to use the potty?" anytime we approach an establishment that looks like it will have remotely sanitary facilities. And to be honest, it's driving me crazy!
First somebody has to pee. So we take them. We try to convince the other that they should "try" too so as to avoid a second trip

How do we define success in life? Well, if you're a mom, and you probably are if you are reading this: Successfully potty-training your child ranks up there with starting your own fortune 500 company. I've been through it and it is still something that is a source of pride for me. I think this and then I remind myself-
EVERYONE IN THE WORLD IS POTTY-TRAINED.
It can't be that hard...Duh!
But maybe, just maybe... it is that big of a deal.
I got this in am email, I'm sure a mom wrote it:
SUCCESS IN LIFE
At age 4 success is . . . not piddling in your pants.
At age 12 success is . . . having friends.
At age 17 success is ... having a drivers license.
At age 35 success is . . having money.
At

I recently went through the joyous process of banishing the binky from our home. If I had to rank it I would put it up there with Dante's Inferno - Ninth Circle of Hell! Seriously, as parenting goes, it is right up there with potty training. It was miserable! I made the idiotic decision to let my daughter hold onto her binky for 3.5 years (feel free to judge). I think in the back of my mind I knew when it went so did her naps. Plus I had more than a few people tell me that my window to ditch said binky was shot! I should just wait till she turns 4 and have her pick a toy and give the binky up on her own terms. Why...why do I listen?
Anyway, I decided it was time. I looked over at

Thank you so much to all my blogging friends who have generously donated their time and postings to help me out over the past few weeks. I still have many of their great posts to share with you, so please continue coming back!

As for me, I am going through a very tough time right now.
It is a time in your life when you just do not want to get out of bed, much less get up and exercise. I am an emotional eater and there have been many times in the past few weeks that I have opted for the entire BOX of Thin Mints instead of the treadmill. Yet despite my best efforts, no amount of brownie bites, Milano cookies, or Junior Mints is going to make my situation any different. I shovel them down

One of my greatest joys of being a parent is seeing how my kids treat each other. Now, my kids are little, and I know the sibling wars are coming, but for now, it is so cute.
Big Man LOVES his big sisters - especially K. K can do no wrong in his eyes. And she knows it and loves it. She is the first to run and get him his blanky if he is getting upset. If he is crying she will go pick him up. They are sooo cute together.
B worships K as well. She is always wanting to do and say exactly what K is doing/saying. If K is wearing a dress, B wants to wear a dress. If K is jumping, B will jump. And K does a pretty good job of putting up with it. They share a room - and often a bed. I love when I come

I am officially one of those moms. I have totally over scheduled my poor 6 year old. She has soccer (one practice a week, one game on the weekend), ballet (once a week), and swimming (once a week). So now on, she goes to school. At 6 (or hopefully a bit before) I pick her up at extended day, have her put on her shin guards and socks, and walk out to the soccer field. At 6:45 (15 minutes early) we get up and walk back to our house (thank GOD our house, the school, and the field are so close!). When we get there, B is waiting in her bathing suit, with a grilled cheese sandwich in her hand for K. We all climb in the car and drive like crazy to swimming across town. On the way K eats her
