Today Giggles turned 3! She has been so excited about it for the past few weeks and was looking forward to her big day. This afternoon, hubby and I went to her school to have a birthday party for her with her classmates. These school birthday parties are a big deal to the kids and they all rave about whose birthday party it was at school and what kind of cake they had, etc. So we were all expecting a fun time - we had the Minnie Mouse party stuff, the Dora and Boots cupcakes, the party hats, the goody bags - but we didn't expect Giggles to burst into heaving sobs when everyone started singing "Happy Birthday." The poor child was so upset and we have no idea why! Maybe it was because they

I would like to know, O dear readers, if there is anyone among us who can truthfully claim a childhood free of bribery, intended either to ward off some outlandish behavior or be the proverbial "carrot" on the arduous stick of our lives. (I would also like to know if you think that would be a terrific name for a soap opera, because I do). I ask this, in part, to uncover our vast similarities and join together as friends, but mostly to make myself feel way better about those few times I extorted silence out of my raging toddler with a threat to skip the visit to Cold Stone.
Realizing that this post and several others (okay, fine, ALL of them) effectively kill my chances at winning Mother Of

I am sure all of us can look at moments over the years that still make us want to just die from embarrassment. Most of these moments happen when are we are younger, not quite as self assured as we are today. I am not sure if it maturity, confidence or not just not giving a hoot (by hoot I mean something else) about what other people think but the novelty of "dying" from embarrassment seems to go away as we age. This is a good thing for most women as pride and any general sense of humiliation must be checked at door when you enter the maternity ward.
Anyway, I have learned to roll with the punches. I don't cringe when my daughter decides to show her bloomers to 200 people at the Town

So my lovely daycare sent Big Man home with "pink eye" yesterday. And he couldn't come back without a doctor's note. I was sure he didn't have pink eye and when we saw him - with bright white (albeit gunky) eyes - I knew he didn't have pink eye. You see, they call it "pink eye" because when you have it there is discharge and your eyes are PINK. His were not at all.
Instead, like his sister before him, Big Man's nasal passages and tear ducts are closely related. So along with a runny nose, he sometimes gets runny gross eyes. His sister did it too. What he does have is a cold. And, as it turns out after a dr's visit, a double ear infection. Poor thing. He has been in a great mood - so hard to

So, we hit a bump in the road with Emily's "Big Girl Bed". The transition from the crib went so smoothly at first. She's not getting out of it on her own....but it's so much harder to get her to fall asleep. We made the mistake of falling asleep with her. NOT GOOD. Now, we have a whole new routine of books and cuddling and prayer with her. And lately, she only wants Mommy.
At 7:35pm....Greg tried tonight to help and do the bedtime routine...but she cried off and on for an hour screaming MOMMY! I finally went up to calm her down, cuddle, read her "tractor" book that she loves...and 30 minutes later I'm still trying to "get away"...but her please of "one more minute mommy" mealt my

Earlier today, in an attempt to be one of those go-getter mamas, the boys and I made the (short) hike to the park for some sun and interaction with the rest of humanity. Those of you who stay at home with your kids, you know exactly what I mean. Picture those last ten minutes of The Shining: Jack Nicholson, crazy hair, a severe personality disorder. You get it. See, lately, there's been this overwhelming feeling of "something has to change," like I want to take some real steps to improving the little things around here. The boys are getting old enough to join in the fun, and you can only go to the mall so many times before you're like "ok seriously, there is MORE TO LIFE than hanging out in
