![]() Grab a friend and head for Cleveland Park in NW DC. This is an awesome cooking class that blends food, wine and fun all into a delightful evening. The class setting is a 1913 home in Cleveland Park. Classes are taught by Ed and Jinny, a spirited couple who have been sharing their culinary skills with the DC Metro area for years. Instruction is light and is set to music with a small group of folks. Your efforts are rewarded. The evening ends with either an outdoor meal on their beautiful patio or inside in a cozy dining room. The best part of the meal, the company and not having to do the dishes. View the website for a list of upcoming classes. LINK |

1789 1226 36th Street
Washington DC 20007
202-965-1789
This road tested DC establishment blends exceptional service, fabulous food and a romantic interior. For years, 1789 has hosted the elite as well as everyday guests. 1789 easily holds it spot as one of the "Top 5" most romantic date night destinations in the area. Located just off of Georgetown's campus, the building immediately greets you with its sense of history. Once inside, the gracious staff makes you the most important patron that ever came to their humble establishment. As you can imagine, the cost is high but not outrageous. This is the perfect venue and location for a special night out. Noteworthy, Brad and Angelina made a stop to 1789 during a DC visit.
Café Milano
3251 Prospect Street NW
Washington DC 20007
202-333-6183
Who knew such a place in existed in the DC area? Forget the normal DC celebrity buzz, Café Milano has real celebrities that seek out its culinary delights. Brad, Angie, Rodman, and oodles of others make their way to this Georgetown hot spot. Bumping with energy and an insanely popular bar, this is one of the best people watching venues in the area. Noteworthy, the food is incredible, the prices are high and I would go if you are interested a lively crowd. Skip the venue if you are looking for a quiet date night.
Citronelle
3000 M Street
Washington DC 20007
202-625-2150
This is simply the best restaurant in Washington DC! I would recommend this for a premiere night on the town. Prefix menus run between $100.00 to $150.00 per person and that doesn't include drinks. One must not forget the French's penchant for small portions. This is truly for a food connoisseur. Noteworthy, while I love this restaurant, my thought is if you are to pay the equivalent of a car payment for dinner you might want to make the trip to the Inn at Little Washington. A wonderful DC alternative is the sister restaurant Central.
Inn at Little Washington
Middle & Main Street
Washington VA 22747
800-860-4930
Simply the best! The Inn at Little Washington does is better than any other establishment that you will find in the area. The delightful Victorian home plays host to a small audience of patrons every night. The accompanying hotel is absolutely exquisite. Many years ago this location was anointed one of the best B&Bs in country. It still holds its magic and has not lost its title! The careful presentation of food, the elite and courteous staff coupled with the romantic and enchanting interiors makes this the destination for a romantic meal or special celebration! Note, the cost is very high for the restaurant and Inn. Check out our Weekend Getaway section under Travel & Leisure for a list of local, less expensive B&Bs in Washington, VA. They include Fairlea Farm Inn and Foster Harris Inn.
L'Auberge Chez Francois
332 Springvale Road
Great Falls VA 22066
703-759-3800
An enchanted French cottage greets you as you enter this hidden culinary gem tucked away in Great Falls, VA. The understated elegance of the room easily falls a distant second to the food and warm staff. Don’t let the country quaint fool you; this will be a memorable meal that you will file away in your memory as one of the best you have ever had. Note, L'Auberge Chez Francois is a must for a special event. While it doesn't' carry the panache of Citronelle and the Inn at Little Washington, it holds its own and comes with a smaller price tag. You must have the Le chateaubriand de L'Auberge☺
Mount Vernon Wine Festival
3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway
Mount Vernon VA 22121
703-780-2000
The Mount Vernon Wine Festival ranks as one of my best date nights with my husband, ever! The semi-annual fête makes for an absolutely enchanted evening. As you enter at dusk, the lantern lit path takes you past huge open pastures to a breathtaking view of the estate’s rolling lawn and Potomac River. Guests enjoy live blues music, a rare evening tour of George Washington’s home and tastings from over 20 local award winning Virginia vineyards. Throw down a blanket or bring a folding chair and go eat, drink and be merry. Grab a favorite wine, a baguette and fruit and take in the evening. Noteworthy, don't ruin the night by overdoing it. With 20 stations each serving 3+ types of wine, the night could get fuzzy…fast! Tickets go on sale 6 weeks before the early May and October events. The Saturday night event goes quickly!
Opentable.com
On the web
You must, must go to this website immediately and sign up for this service. If you are anything like me, a night out is a precious commodity. I plan for the time, the sitter and the restaurant…weeks in advance. Gone are the days of putting myself on a waiting list and accepting an electric coaster and a smile from peppy hostess telling you your wait will be anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours (slight exaggeration). So unless you enjoy jockeying for bar space and hoping that they serve a full menu at said bar, MAKE A RESERVATION! OpenTable has revolutionized this process. It is a FREE online service that allows you to select from hundreds of dining options throughout the Metro DC area. You can break down your selection by region, time and date. Yippie, hassle free reservationIs! Note, not all local restaurants are listed.

Established in 1728, The Red Fox Inn, among the most popular and award-winning Country Inns nationwide, maintains a simple yet romantic bed-and-breakfast charm. The original fieldstone structure has both inviting hotel rooms, which are carefully furnished in the 18th-century manner, and a nationally acclaimed restaurant that caters to all tastes and occasions. The Inn is on the national Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register and is open every day of the year. Information courtesy of The Red Fox Inn.
Ristorante Bonaroti's
428 Maple Avenue
Vienna VA 22180
703-281-7550
Trust me, I grew in Philadelphia I know great Italian food. Ristorante Bonaroti's is one of the best samplings of Southern Italian food that you will find in the DC Metro Area. Just off Maple Avenue in Vienna, it is worth the trip. Noteworthy, this is great date night destination. |
