This gym, worthy of Hercules, houses a monster selection of free weights, cardio equipment, treadmills, lifecycles, elliptical machines, and Stairmasters. An array of classes including: cardio kickboxing, spinning, yoga, and low impact options as well. The club also has a full service salon and spa, a cafe and an indoor pool. What did it for me was the childcare center. They have a tube maze, computers, tons of toys and more. In addition to a lap pool, there is an awesome slide and fountains for kids. |

Bally's offers all of the standard amenities. Lots of cardio equipment, classes and a childcare center. Since location offering and interiors are not uniform, I would recommend making a trip to the location nearest you. Better yet, get a trial membership and always check out the childcare center before you enroll your little one in its general population!

Fairfax County Park Authority's nine recreation and fitness centers serve over one million customers annually, offering the latest exercise equipment, the DC Metro area's top aquatics facilities and classes that cover the leisure alphabet from Aerobics to Zoom Photography. Recreation Centers are places where anyone can be comfortable improving their fitness level, whatever level it is. Friends and family can play together in the water or on the courts. All Recreation Centers have classes and camps for children and some have pre-school programs for our littlest customers. Reenters are conveniently located. They start early, close late, and are open seven days a week.

FIT 4 MOMS offers classes daily in Arlington, VA and now in DC.

Ok, so the jury is still out on Fitness First. I have talked to some folks who LOVE it and other hard core gym junkies that feel that the equipment is a bit dated in some of their locations. What does not seem to be in dispute is the price. All of the folks that I have spoken with love the rates! Plus with mulitple Metro DC locations, all with childcare center, it is worth the trip to your local Fitness First Gym to make up your own mind about membership.

Gold’s is tricky. I belonged to Gold’s for years and at the time did not have any real issue with the gym. To be honest, it got the job done, but I was never a huge fan. The staff often times appeared to be lifeless greeters that were more interested in talking with one another. The thing that fried my bacon was the childcare center in Annandale. There always seemed to be one disengaged woman in the room. Worst yet, they solicited toys from members. Yes, a big sign read "Need Toys". I wasn't even a mother at the time and found that to be tacky. When the Merrifield location opened, they had to be convinced to offer towels, an amenity most of other clubs offered. The final insult was my club cancellation. I had to work for 3 months to get the issue resolved and the membership and the fees stopped. Too much hassle!

This is an exceptional recreation facility in Loudoun County that offers basketball, tennis courts, a full gym, an impressive aquatic center and even childcare. Noteworthy, the facility offers party rentals.

What did it for me was the childcare center. They have a mini basketball court, a tube maze, computers, tons of toys and a big screen TV. Member rates are competitive. The childcare center does charge a small monthly fee. Little ones can check in for up to two hours. My trips include workouts, computer time (free Wi-Fi) in the café and even a hair cuts. Lifetime offers personal trainers, a multitude of kiddie classes, and even kid’s birthday parties. Camps are also offered during the summer.

Tons of local clubs make WSC an ideal gym if you travel the Metro DC area either with your little one or solo for work. The clubs fancy themselves a higher end alternative to the Gold's and Bally's. With babysitting, a towel service, parking (nice perk in Old Town Alexandria and DC locations), massages and a solid schedule of classes this can be a very nice respite from the a busy day. Be sure to check with the club nearest you for trial offers and childcare center hours. Noteworthy, check out the XpressLine trainer-supervised full body strength 22 minute workout.

Spacious and well-equipped free weight facilities, indoor swimming pool, saunas, and steam are also standard fare at most clubs. Extensive selection of mind/body fitness classes including tai chi, yoga, and stretch-relaxation. Locations offer on-site baby-sitting for ages 6 months to 10-year-olds. Be sure to tour any perspective gym and childcare center before joining. Location amenties vary from site to site. |
