Arhaus Fairfax Corner & Tysons Corner
Northern VA
We have all been to the "chain" interior stores where you get the feeling that you are paying more for the rent and catalog distribution than for quality furnishings. Aarhus is the exception to the rule. Many of the their items are truly one of kind pieces that I have been unable to find anywhere else. As the consummate bargain shopper, the prices still sting a bit. In truth, some furnishing (i.e. bedroom sets) could be found for a lesser price at a large furniture house; however, for that special dining table or heirloom sequel wing chair go for it. Noteworthy, Aarhus’s customer service is exceptional!
Bed, Bath & Beyond

Great destination for everything home. While I love Linen's N Things, I find a greater selection at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Some of BB&B's local stores are reconstructing store layouts to incorporate pharmacy and beauty items. Noteworthy, don't toss those coupons that you get in the mail or in your Sunday paper. I once saved $50.oo on a down comforter. Plus, you can use up to 5 coupons at one time. BB&B and Linens N Things honor each others coupons!
HomeGoods

Run don't walk to Home Goods. This emporium of designer wares at discounts prices is just too good to be true! I feel in love with this shop after discovering numerous high end items on the well stocked shelves. Accents and furnishings are regularly discounted by 60% versus popular home interior stores and catalogs. Dishes, towels, frames, heirloom quality rugs, lamps, distinctive indoor and outdoor furnishings plus an impressive kitchen section are just a sampling of the items that will greet you at this budget lover's paradise. Noteworthy, before you decorate a nursery, child's bedroom or playroom checkout Home Goods hgkids section. The children's section is stocked with toys, books, brand name comforters, storage solution and so much more. Stores are located throughout the DC Metro area. P.S. leave your toddler at home, the china section is like candy to a baby!
Leesburg Corner Outlets

Leesburg VA 20176

In a word "FABULOUS"! I fell for this outlet mall when I was still searching for Jones of New York bargains. Now with a toddler, my trips are more geared to Gymboree and Carter's. I consider this outdoor outlet to be one of the best in DC area. It has an excellent section dedicated to all things home. It has an all-star line-up of Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Bombay Company, Restoration Hardware and more! Shopping for hubby, they have a generous assortment of men's business clothing, shoes and accessories. Check out the website for more information. Noteworthy, both Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma will accept "Pottery Barn Family" issued gift cards in their outlet stores.
Linens & Things

Always a perennial favorite for local shoppers. Noteworthy, don't toss those coupons that you get in the mail or in your Sunday paper. I once saved $50.00 on a down comforter. Plus, you can use up to 5 coupons at one time. Linens N Things and Bed, Bath & Beyond honor each others coupons!
Marshall's

Great discount destination for family gear, home needs, shoes, knick-knacks and more. Shop early and often. The good stuff tends to go quickly. I been fortunate to find some really cute Ralph Lauren dresses for my daughter. They also have some inexpensive option for your early postpartum figure. Who wants to spend a fortune on clothes that will hopefully be packed away...soon! Noteworthy, clothing can be tricky for kids and adults. With hundreds of designer, sizing will vary. If Junior won't try on his gear in the store make sure your purchases are tested at home and keep your receipt just in case. Bonus, they have a decent menswear section filled with dress shirts and ties that won't empty your wallet.
Pottery Barn

We all know that Pottery Barn is the leader in catalog and retail furniture therapy. While I admit to a grapevine scroll wrought iron bed (circa 1996), a coffee table and a few file cabinets, I still think you need to shop price and furniture quality before buying from the Barn. Noteworthy, many discounted Pottery Barn goods can be found in the Leesburg Corner Outlet store. Also, hold onto a catalog or two. Their designers are great at putting a room together and have served as an inspiration for me after one of my many moves over the years.
T.J. Maxx

This discount den had such success with their house wares section that they started HomeGoods. Both stores offer brand names for far less than retail counterparts. Great selection of children's clothing, toys, etc. They also stock plenty of wares for mommy, kitchen, and special holiday accessories.
Target

This mega-store serves up everything from clothes to groceries. I love their Liz Lange maternity wear. I wasn't willing to spend $150.00 for a dress at Pea in a Pod. My Liz Lange gear held up well and didn't require a lot of ironing. Some kid’s clothing prices are a bit high. A better option is Kohl's. Target does get high marks for their Robeez knockoffs, which are 70% less than the brand name shoe. Diapers and formula are moderately priced, but are cheaper at wholesale clubs. NOTE, Target gets a big “Thumbs Down” on their baby furniture and web sales. Their return policies make gift registries a nightmare! Target is best for knick-knacks, cards, toiletries, clothing accessories and outdoor items. Be sure to check out the book shelves, storage solutions and robust toy selection. The toy section is easier to navigate than Toys R Us. |
