Funky online art studio for the common folk. Check out the children's silhouette. These are cool way to dress up with walls with a different view of Junior. All Pop Art will take your digital photos and turn them into super size silhouettes of your munchkin(s). You must go online to take a look at their work. It is edgy design that would work well in a family room, playroom, staircase or hallway. Too cool! Noteworthy, All Pop Art is getting major kudos from Domino Magazine and Better Homes and Gardens. There are tons of unique ideas on the website. They can even recreate a WarholStyle portrait of your little one.

Note, I have found prices to be commensurate with NC bargain outlets for the same products. If you have a certain item in mind that you don’t see on the showroom floor, ask if it can be ordered. They have access to an endless supply of vendors.
Boyles Furniture

I understand if you don't want to buy a $3,000 sofa without working with someone in a local store. BUT, I have found in my travels that popular items for Junior, such as the beds, cribs and rockers found in PBKids, are available at Boyles at a greatly reduced price. The majority of PBKids bedroom furnishings are made by Stanley Youth. Stanley Furniture is a popular maker and can be found at any number of stores including favorites like Boyles, Gallahans and Babies 2 Teens. PBKids rocking chairs looks suspiciously like Rowe and can also be purchased through some of the above mentioned retailers. Bottom-line, do your homework. The savings will allow you to buy more furniture☺

Connie Johnson's Designs
4415 Davenport Street
Washington DC 20016

www.conniejohnsondesigns.com
This is such a cool concept that I had to share. DC native Connie Johnson has many artistic offerings, but for parents there is one that is just too precious. Connie can take your child's artwork and recreate the images in colors onto a armoire, cupboard, table, trunk, dresser, chair, plaque, picture frame or breakfast tray. Your little one will think he is Picasso. Prices are determined by your unfinished wood furniture selection and the number of drawings you wish to have created. This might be a little pricey, but this is an item that you will cherish forever!
Daisy Baby & Mommies Too

Think NYC chic boutique meets maternity. The atmosphere is completely fashion forward with top shelve high quality designer duds for the mom-to-be and baby. A gracious staff greets you as you journey through the fashionable assortment of baby clothes, trendy mommy wear, and a large stash of children's furnishings. Check out the suede rockers and enchanting bedding. Noteworthy, this experience doesn't come cheap, but the mommies that I have talked to all agree some things are worth the price! Daisy, Baby & Mommies is located behind a charming storefront in Bethesda.
Dawn Price Baby

Dawn Price Baby brings a delightful twist to your neighborhood baby boutique. I was thrilled to find this DC shop offered moderately priced items on a number of adorable and creative baby wares. Dawn Price offers an extensive and eclectic mix of nursery furnishing, baby gear, clothing and one-of-kind expectant mother products such as the Pregnancy Casting Kit. The store has a flavor for the whimsical. The hand painted personalized ceramic birth certificates are irresistible! Ikea
Woodbridge, VA /College Park, MD
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/
I think at one time or another we all have shopped at the Swedish furniture giant Ikea. Ikea is a right of passage for many who have just graduated from college. This is your destination to fill your sparsely populated first apartment. And while I have graduated onto Thomasville, I still rely on Ikea for house wares, plants, kitchen needs, closet organizers, patio furniture and oodles more. The store has a plentiful children’s section filled with toy chests, storage shelves, inexpensive toddler beds, funky nursery artwork and even trendy, European toys all for ridiculously low prices. Note Ikea is typically a mob scene on weekends. Try to go early or during off hours.

J.C. Penney's

Simply one of the best! JCPenney is a hidden treasure for off-the-shelf window treatments. Now, I understand that if you just purchased a $2M McMansion in McLean that this might not be your shop, but for the budget conscious and DC short timers, it is perfect. JCPenney offers an exceptional selection of popular panels and valances in various lengths, colors, designs and fabrics. Be sure to sign up for online sale updates, via the web site. Panels are often marketed down by 50% during a sale. Custom drapes and blinds are also available. Noteworthy, the shop's pleated panels come in soft baby pastel colors that look beautiful on a double curtain-rod atop a child's sheer.

I first discovered Oopsie-Daisy Wall Art while scouting out Dawn Price Baby in Georgetown. While Dawn Price has a lovely selection of this artwork, I found that the online store, Show Off Boutique, carries an impressive offering of Oopsie Daisy art complete with free shipping on orders over $100.00 and a tax-free alternative to local stores. Regardless of your store preference, you must take a look at Oopsie Daisy artwork. They have the most darling selection of children's canvas art, growth charts and more. You will swoon over the beautiful colors and unique landscapes that are represented. Noteworthy, they make an excellent gifts for a new baby or growing toddler.
Pottery Barn Kids
DC Metro locations
www.potterybarnkids.com/
As most of us know, Pottery Barn Kids is a lovely store. It is filled with beautiful blankets, sweet window treatments, gorgeous rugs, and intoxicating catalogs. It is also a great place to window shop for design ideas. The store displays and catalogs abound with charm. My only pet peeve with PBKids is the price. Their bedroom sets look identical to Stanley Youth Furniture, at double the cost. Some other items can also be found for less if you just look a little. But hey, if you love the crib bumpers and have found the perfect crib sheet, buy them! I have a rug, window treatments, and crib gear from PBKids. I don’t regret the purchase. I would just caution you to compare prices on the big ticket furniture items. Do your research and educate yourself on your options. With the savings you can buy more baby gear☺
Stanley Youth Furniture

http://www.youngamerica.com
Stanley is one of my favorite brands of furniture. I first discovered Stanley when I was shopping for a bedroom set. The North Carolina furniture houses promote and carry a number of Stanley items. I was impressed with the company's reputation, furniture lines and price. When it came time to purchase a crib and changing station I was elated to find that Stanley had an extensive line of youth furniture. That have a beautiful collection of nursery and children's furniture. If you don't believe me, check out the website. You will see that the items bare a striking resemblances to a number of the Pottery Barn Kids beds. Check out Boyles Furniture and Baby 2 Teens entries under our Home Furnishings category for more information.
Target
DC Metro locations
www.target.com
This mega-store serves up everything from clothes to groceries. I love their Liz Lange maternity wear. I wasn't willing to spend $150.00 for a dress at Pea in a Pod. My Liz Lange gear held up well and didn't require a lot of ironing. Some kid’s clothing prices are a bit high. A better option is Kohl's. Target does get high marks for their Robeez knockoffs, which are 70% less than the brand name shoe. Diapers and formula are moderately priced, but are cheaper at wholesale clubs. NOTE, Target gets a big “Thumbs Down” on their baby furniture and web sales. Their return policies make gift registries a nightmare! Target is best for knick-knacks, cards, toiletries, clothing accessories and outdoor items. Be sure to check out the book shelves, storage solutions and robust toy selection. The toy section is easier to navigate than Toys R Us.
WallWords

I am totally infatuated with this company. After viewing the website, I was hooked. Here is the deal; they make letters, graphics and stencils that have a one time use. They also can print life size, full color vinyl photos that can be applied to indoor walls. The website shows you the many options that are available to customers. They have a special Kids Kut section that is perfect for your little one's nursery or room. Wall Words has an endless selection of colors, sizes and font options. You don't need to pay for an expensive artist to come to your home. If they don’t have the specific quote you are after, you can request a custom quote online. Noteworthy, Wall Words has a slew of off-the-shelf options that are a cheaper alternative to their custom made stencils. Note, have a friend assist with the application process.
World Market

I adore this store for home goods, kitchen wares, window treatments, and an endless supply of décor and knick-knack items. Think Pier I, but twice the size and selection. They also have a section that carries exotic teas, cookies, coffee and extensive selection of wine. Wicker baskets abound in the back corner of the store. They have reasonably priced dining tables, bar stools, bedroom sets and home office items like dark wood desks. Bonus, there is a nice assortment of white wicker baskets that are covered in pink or blue gingham. Great for a nursery! I have one for toys, one for books and a small one that holds diapers on my little one's changing table. I promise, you will find something that you will absolutely love at this store. Prices are very reasonable. You will keep coming back for more!
